Expect Respect Character Trait for Nov. is Kindness:  We kickoff the November with the Expect Respect character trait of Kindness. Please make sure you take your pledge.  How do you plan to demonstrate kindness this month? Extra kudos if you post and tag @detroitk12 with your example.   

Check Out This Week’s Fall Parent Academy Workshops: Be sure to read the fall Parent Academy catalog and sign up for a workshop! Noteworthy sessions this week include: Level Up to High School from the Office of Enrollment on Monday, November 1, 2021, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and 9th grade-12th grade Science, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Computer Science opportunities, Tuesday, November 2, 9 a.m.-10 a.m., from the Office of Curriculum. Click link to register for these or other Parent Academy classes. School Spotlight Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies School (F.L.I.C.S.) A K-8 program, FLICS is one of the only public immersion programs in the state, offering partial immersion programs in French, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese. Parents choose FLICS because they want their child to be successful learning a new language they can use now and in their future. Teacher Spotlight: Each week we will share a student, parent or teacher spotlight that provides inspiration for us all. This week’s spotlight is Neil Freitas, Earhart Elementary-Middle School third grade teacher who connects with his students in and out of the classroom so they can Rise! Track Your DPSL Varsity Football Team During the State Playoffs!  The District congratulates the student athletes and coaches from Cass Technical High School, Martin Luther King Jr., Sr. High School, Pershing High School, Southeastern High School and Central High School for participating in the opening round of state football playoffs. Keep an eye on the DPSCD website as well as our social media channels for updates!  


Fall Examination High School 9th Grade Application Window is Open! If your current 8th grade student is ready to Rise Up with DPSCD, the Round 1 window is now open to apply to one of the District’s six Examination High Schools. Please note, the Round 1 deadline for 9th grade application is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021. For current high school students, the Round 1 deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 28. To learn more, please visit
