Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

Attendance Tips for the New School Year: We always strive to reach excellent student attendance whether in person or online. To help demonstrate why attendance is important, we will provide weekly tips and resources.  

One school adopted a program called the two P’s, Participation=Perfect Attendance, for students who have two or less absences per month (two or more absences per month is considered chronic absenteeism). Many schools incentivize student attendance with award ceremonies, certificates of recognition and more. Talk to your school leaders to understand how they are supporting perfect attendance. Share with your friends and neighbors, there is still time to enroll! Please visit a school near you or!

School Required Vaccines and COVID-19 Immunizations: In partnership with several health providers, DPSCD families, update your child's school required immunizations on Saturday, September 18 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Rd. In Detroit or at Ben Carson High School, 571 Mack Ave. You can also get COVID-19 vaccinations at these sites as well. Hispanic Heritage Month Begins on Wednesday, September 15! With the theme of “A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage & Hope: The Fabrics that Weave Us Together,” Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Participate with your schools' activities and learn more about Hispanic Heritage month by visiting
