Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!
Fall Examination High School 9th Grade Application Window Opens Today (Oct. 4)! If your current 8th grade student is ready to Rise Up with DPSCD, the Round 1 window is now opened to apply to one of the District’s six Examination High Schools. Please note, the Round 1 deadline for 9th grade application is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021. For current high school students, the Round 1 deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 28. Attendance Tips This Week! Students, to ensure that you are making every school day count, here are more tips to foster regular attendance, whether in a brick and mortar school or online in the DPSCD’s new Virtual School:
- Arrive for school and class on-time! Punctuality matters! You learn better when you are not late for school, in person or online!
- Be sure to reward yourself for perfect attendance! Grab a calendar and mark an A on each day you attend school. Plus, mark your calendar for February 18, 2022. That’s when you’ll be recognized by the District at a special virtual Semester 1 Perfect Attendance Celebration.
Fall Parent Academy Workshop This Week: In case you missed it, the digital fall Parent Academy catalog is now available! This week’s workshops include Understanding FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and All About Equity, don’t forget we take mental and emotional health seriously, check out resources to use now. School Spotlight: Fisher Magnet Lower Academy: Known for its culture of mutual respect, mindfulness, and compassion, see how Fisher Magnet Lower Academy, a Pre-K-4th grade school, can meet the academic as well as social-emotional needs of your child. October is Ability Awareness Month As the state’s largest public-school system, DPSCD prides itself on the richness of our diversity, elevating our students, families, and the intersection of various identities every day. Save the date of October 28 for a Virtual Coffee and Conversation on the topic, “What Ability Looks Like.” This event will give you a glimpse of what others have learned and highlight stories of strength in the diversity of abilities at DPSCD. DPSCD Support Staff Hiring Fair - Saturday, October 9 We know DPSCD is a great place to serve students and support our staff. If you know anyone who is looking for a new job, we have opportunities. The hiring fair will be held at Cass Technical High School (2501 Second Ave.) between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. A variety of support positions are open including early childhood paraeducators, trainable aides, substitutes, food service and transportation workers.
