OPENING THIS WEEK: Detroit Institute of Arts presents the 89th Annual Detroit Public Schools Community District Student Art Exhibition

OPENING THIS WEEK: Detroit Institute of Arts presents the 89th Annual Detroit Public Schools Community District Student Art Exhibition

April 14, 2026– DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is proud to present the 89th Annual Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Student Art Exhibition, on view on the museum’s first floor in the Wayne and Joan Webber Education Wing and online from April 17 to May 24, 2026. There will be a media event held at the museum on April 17 at 10 a.m.
The exhibition is the longest-standing continuous collaboration between the DIA and an educational organization and will feature a diverse array of artworks, including paintings, prints, drawings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, and more. All works are created by talented DPSCD students in grades K – 12.
“The DIA is proud to provide a platform for Detroit's young artists to showcase their incredible creativity with this annual exhibition,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, Director of the Detroit Institute of Arts. “For 89 years, our partnership with DPSCD has helped us reinforce our commitment to fostering arts education within our community, all while inspiring a new generation of artists.”
“It's almost unimaginable to think about a student exhibit and partnership lasting 89 years between a public school district and a world-class museum such as the DIA! I am deeply thankful to our teachers for their guidance and commitment to our student artists, and our families for supporting their children,” said Dr. Nikolai Vitti, Superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. “I continue to be proud of our District as we continue to support, protect, and enhance arts education. I encourage everyone to go see the exhibition to not only support our students, but to once again be reminded of their infinite talent and how we as a greater community ensure we are doing everything to provide them with the adequate resources to support their growth and development."
A total of 243 artworks were selected for display by a jury comprised of DPSCD art educators, representing 39 DPSCD schools.

General admission to the museum is always free for residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
