K-8 Exam, Montessori and Marygrove

Detroit Public Schools Community District invite families to apply for admission to its exam, Montessori and The School at Marygrove for the 2026-27 school year.

Bates Academy (exam required, K-8)
Chrysler Elementary (exam required, K-5)
Edmonson Elementary (Wall-to-Wall Montessori, PreK-8)
Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies (exam required, K-8)
Palmer Park Preparatory Academy (Montessori Program, PreK-8)
The School at Marygrove (random selection process, K-6)

There are three application options, which are based on the grade the student will enter if admitted. The applications will open at 12 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

Tours will be held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on regular school days.

Application Guidelines

You will be asked to rank your schools by preference. Preferences will be used to determine placements. Please choose your schools/rankings carefully.
Requests to update school choices or the order of your school ranking preference must be received no later than Friday April 17.
If applying for multiple children, please submit all applications by the application deadline. We make every effort to keep siblings together in the admission process, however, applications must be submitted in the same round.
Do not submit more than one application for the same scholar. Email application.schools@detroitk12.org or use Submittable to send a message requesting that your application be opened for editing.
You may save the application in progress and return to make as many changes as necessary prior to submitting it. Please review the application carefully before submitting.

Bates, Chrysler and FLICS

An exam is required for admission consideration for Bates, FLICS and Chrysler. All scholars must take the exam no later than April 18. Exams will be offered on the following dates: March 12, 14, 17, 19 and 24; April 9, 14 and 18. Registration is required. Spots are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Immediately after submitting their application, applicants receive an email that will contain the link for scheduling an exam appointment. The link will be unique to each application and is non-transferrable.

Exam Guidelines

Scholars who take the exam during their current application round, but do not earn a passing score will be allowed to re-take the exam during the Appeal Window. Appeal exams will be offered on May 19 and 21.
Exams can be rescheduled for another date during the same application round (before April 18). The custom registration link can be used to select a new date within the same application round.
The appeal test results will be final. No re-tests are allowed for students who take the test for the first time during the Appeal Window.
Round 1 applicants who do not take the exam in Round 1 will be declined admission to any exam schools selected in the application.

Make a 15-minute or 30-minute appointment to receive one-on-one assistance with your application. Trained support team members will be available via phone or Microsoft Teams video conference. Sessions are available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through May 1, 2026.
