As we know, students are more likely to succeed when schools address behavior and learning together. Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MiBLSi) partners with school districts to help implement and sustain these supports for improved student outcomes. Roberto Clemente has been successfully implementing MiBLSi for over ten years in order to create and sustain positive school culture and climate and in order to support reading growth. At RCLA, the MiBLSi team focuses on providing high quality instruction and targeted interventions to ensure student academic and socio-emotional success. The MiBLSi team implemented morning announcements to update students and parents on school-wide expectations and to make important celebratory announcements regarding student achievements.
One of the incentives that gets announced every two weeks on Tuesday afternoon is the Respect Badge incentive in which students are rewarded for good behavior by being given a respect badge, a small piece of paper that they put their name on, then are entered into a bi-weekly raffle that happens in each classroom. Those names are sent down to the office, then students who are pulled get announced in the morning and are later sent down to pick out an exciting prize!
