Mrs. Anita Totty
Mrs. Anita Totty is the Director of Early Childhood Education for Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Mrs. Totty helps maintain 131 early childhood classrooms, serving over 2,300 4-year olds and their families. She supports teachers, students, and families in the DPSCD Early Childhood programs. Mrs. Totty taught preschool for nine years before being promoted to central office. She has experience with best practices for adult learning and mentoring through Parent University and Parent workshops. Periodically, Ms. Totty makes presentations on topics such as: parent involvement, licensing policies of the Michigan Department of Education, food safety, child development, and nutrition.
Mrs. Anita Totty holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Education in Special Education, a ZA endorsement in Early Childhood Education, and a Professional Michigan Certification in Elementary Education. She is an alumna of Wayne State University.
Mrs. Anita Totty enjoys reading fictional and non-fictional novels, shopping, traveling, and spending quality time with her family. She is married and has 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren.
Mrs. Anita Totty’s professional affiliations include serving as Executive Advisor to the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Chi Chapter, Chair for the Promise Neighborhood Early Learning Committee, as well as a volunteer for the Youth Education & Service (YES) and Meals on Wheels for Seniors programs.
