Dr. Karen McEwen
Dr. Karen McEwen is a proud alumni of the Detroit Public School Community District. After graduating from Henry Ford High School, she decided to further her education at Tuskegee Univeristy; where she majored in English Education. During her time at Tuskegee University she also pursued and a received a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. Dr. McEwen returned home and became part of the Detroit Public Schools Community District as an English Language Arts middle school teacher; while pursing a Masters of Eduation degree in Guidance and Counseling.
After observing the challenges middle school students face, Dr. McEwen decided to change her career from teacher to guidance counselor; where she felt she could impact a greater population of students. Dr. McEwen has always been very resourceful and she applied her skills to became a scholarship guidance counselor. As a scholarship guidance counselor, Dr. McEwen assisted academically dedicated students in securing 1.5 million dollars in academic scholarships. Encouraged by many mentors, Dr. McEwen began exploring the field of administration.
Dr. McEwen advanced her exploration into school and student administration by becaming a curriculum leader, assistant principal, assistant principal on special assignment, academic engagement administrator and now the proud Principal of Cooke STEM Academy. Recently, Dr. McEwen completed her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Central Michigan University.
