Dr. Dedria L. Willis
Principal Dedria Willis started her career in education at DPS Denby High School as a long-term substitute teacher. She attended University of Detroit Mercy and earned a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and teaching certificate. In 1996, Willis was reassigned to Cooley High School as a student teacher. In 1997, she signed a contract as a business, CTE and social studies teacher. In 2001, after earning an Educational Specialist Degree (2000), Willis was promoted to Foch Middle School as a Curriculum Leader. After two years when Foch closed, Willis stayed in the building as it was renamed Southeastern High School of Technology - Ninth Grade Success Academy becoming an assistant principal. In 2009, Willis was reassigned to Denby High School as "school turn-around" assistant principal. In 2012, Willis was promoted to "acting principal" at Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men when the school was without administration. In January 2013, Willis was promoted to become the first principal of Adult Education - West Campus where she still serves as "Servant-Principal Leader". This is Principal Willis's 26th year in DPS/DPSCD. In August of 2017, Principal Willis earned a Doctor of Education Degree from Wayne State University.
Dr. Willis is a single mother of one daughter who just started high school. She loves to travel, swim and bowl. In five to eight years, Dr. Willis plans to retire from the district and become an education consultant, radio DJ and professional singer.
