Students enrolled in AP courses use AP Classroom, the College Board’s online platform with assignments, practice, and exam preparation tools. To support your student in their AP courses, encourage them to visit AP Classroom regularly.

Families can also contact their school counselor to learn which AP courses are offered at their student’s school.
 

DPSCD offers a wide range of Advanced Placement courses that challenge students academically and prepare them for college. With 29 AP courses available, students can take college-level classes and may earn college credit while still in high school.

These courses help students build strong academic skills, explore their interests, and gain a competitive edge as they prepare for college and future careers.

Dual Enrollment enables students to take courses offered by approved postsecondary institutions while earning both high school and college credit. These courses expose students to college-level expectations, academic rigor, and independent learning skills. Many Dual Enrollment courses are transferable to other colleges and universities, though transferability ultimately depends on the receiving institution.

Participation helps students get a head start on their postsecondary goals, reduce future college costs, and build confidence navigating college environments. Dual Enrollment offers motivated and eligible students a valuable opportunity to experience college-level learning while still in high school.
 

Students must meet state and District eligibility requirements to participate in Dual Enrollment. Students must be enrolled in DPSCD, have a Michigan-resident parent or guardian (unless experiencing homelessness), and not have exceeded four years of high school enrollment.

Eligibility is determined using approved assessments such as the PSAT, SAT, or MME. This table shows the complete list of scores that help to qualify students for dual enrollment. 

Enrollment is coordinated by the school counselor with principal approval. Required textbooks are provided by the District through partner fees. Transportation is not provided unless the course is part of a special program.

Students may take up to 10 postsecondary courses, with total course limits based on the grade level in which the student first dual enrolls.

• For a student that first dual enrolls in: 
  • 9th grade – not more than two courses per year in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade, and not more than four courses in grade 12
  • 10th grade – not more than two courses in 10th grade, and not more than four courses in 11th and 12th grade
  • 11th or 12th grade – not more than six courses per year 
     

The Dual Enrollment process is designed to ensure students are appropriately placed and supported:

• Student meets with a school counselor and/or principal to review eligibility and program expectations

• Student receives an eligibility letter signed by the principal

• Student enrolls in approved course(s) with a partner college or university

• Courses are added to the student’s schedule in the student information system

Partner institutions also provide orientations and academic catalogs outlining available courses each semester.
