Ms. Vikki Coleman

Greetings students, teachers, parents, and community! My name is Vikki Coleman, and I am the principal at Carver STEM Academy. I have served in a leadership role for seven years. My most recent administrative position was as assistant principal at Carver. I am proud to say I have been an educator for 30 years, 26 of those have been with DPS/DPSCD. I have had the pleasure of being a substitute teacher, a classroom teacher (kindergarten, third, and fourth grades), a Title 1 teacher, a data specialist, an instructional coach, a site coordinator, and a director.

I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and I am the older of two children. I received my first undergraduate degree (BA) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Sociology, and my second undergraduate degree (BS) from LeMoyne-Owen College in Elementary Education. After moving to Michigan, I received my master's degree (MS) from Wayse State University in Early Childhood Education and my Education Specialist degree (E.Ds.) from Central Michigan University in Educational Leadership. Education is very important to me and being a lifelong learner is a goal of mine.

Because education and the love of learning are so important to me, I endeavor to make sure our students value education as well. One way to achieve that is through a strong Home-School partnership. Please look for more parent/guardian engagement opportunities at our school. I encourage you to become involved by becoming a member of the PTA, volunteering at the school, attending parent workshops and programing, Parent-Teacher Conferences, student performances, and field trips. I believe all our students can learn. They need us to guide, support, and provide the resources needed to be successful in life. Working together, we can instill the tenacity, positive attitudes, work ethic, and skills needed to achieve their dreams. I am really looking forward to this year and the promise it holds for our students.
