Youth advocacy is transformational and essential to moving our communities forward. Not only are students our future, but they are our present as well. Recognizing this, the Board enacted Board Policy 5724 which aims to bolster the number of students participating in the electoral process. Through a partnership with When We All Vote, the District adopted My School Votes to offer all eligible students the opportunity to register to vote!
This program is led by the initiative and creativity of District students. Issues like poverty, lack of transportation, affordable housing, mental health, and public safety impact K-12 students just as much as anyone else. Communities cannot wait until someone enters adulthood to teach civic literacy. Encouraging civic engagement in younger generations will lead them to become civically engaged adults.
Highlights
- Nearly 2000 students registered to vote since the 2020-2021 school year!
- PAID Student Ambassador Summer Internship offered
- Nationwide recognition by Civic Leaders
