Law Academy’s Attendance Policy 2019-2020
Students are expected to in attendance every day. School hours are 7:30a- 2:40p, Monday through Friday.
Absence: Students are considered absent if they are not present in class and/or leave early without consent (this includes a parent/authorized adult not properly signing the student out of school)
- 1-3 days absent: Classroom teacher(s) will attempt to contact household regarding absence(s)
- 4-5 days absent: Attendance Agent (Ms. J) will attempt to contact household regarding absences including home visits
- 6+ days absent: Student will be referred to Department of Health and Human Services
- 10+ days absent: Attendance agent will complete and forward a Truant Net or Erase Truancy referral to the Attendance Department. The case will be processed and forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Student will be dropped from school enrollment.
Students who have 10 (ten) or more unexcused absences are truant. Truant students and parents of truant students are subject to prosecution by the Wayne County Prosecutor for Truancy (in the case of the student) and/or Educational Neglect.
Tardy: Students are considered tardy if they are not present in the building and/or class prior to 8:10a.
- Students arriving at or after 8:10a must report to the main office for a signed tardy pass in order to enter class
- Effective Monday, September 9, 2019, parents/guardians must have a visitors pass to walk students to class after 8:10a
Excused Absence: In order for an absence to be excused, the parent/guardian must notify the school, in writing, as to the reason and length of time the student was absent or tardy, no later than 3 days after the student’s return to school, for the following reasons:
- Student illness
- Medical procedure or doctor/dentist visit
- Bereavement (death in the immediate family)
- Religious holiday
- School related activities
- Educational opportunities including college visits approved and verified
- Other situations beyond the control of the student, as determined by the principal
Early Release: Students who must leave school before the dismissal bell time, must be signed out by the parent/guardian or authorized adult (18 years or older but not in secondary school)
- Photo identification is required to sign out all students, even in emergency situations
- Parent/guardian or authorized adult must properly sign out each student they are requesting for early release. Adult must write each student’s name on a separate line and neatly print full name along with signature and time of pick up
