Dear Students, Families, and Staff:

Edward "Duke" Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art at Beckham Academy has a wonderful reputation for being one of the district's premier performing arts schools that is rich with opportunity for our extremely talented students! As an educator and lover of the arts, I am tremendously thankful for the privilege to serve as principal of this elementary and middle school.

As a proud native of Detroit, a graduate of Detroit Public Schools (Newton Elementary, Winship Middle School, and Renaissance High School), first-generation college student (Bowling Green State University), and the first person in my family to earn a terminal degree (University of Pennsylvania), I have experienced the transformational power of quality education on my future and family firsthand.  In essence, I believe in the beauty and brilliance of Black and Brown students, and I have committed my life's work to utilizing my story, skillset, and strong suits to serve them.

Over the past 13 years, I have worked with four urban public school districts (Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, and New York) and three universities (the University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University). Ultimately, my background in urban education reform has blessed me with the opportunities to serve as a principal (elementary, middle, and high school levels), instructional coach, Common Core curriculum developer, professor, teacher mentor, practitioner-researcher, and an English teacher.

I am committed to cultivating both the academic intellects and creative genius in all of our students, and I am looking forward to an awesome year of learning and growth for our children!

My very best,

Dr. Twila Ainsworth-Comfort
