To ensure the proper functionality of this service we have adopted Internet Explorer 5.5 (or greater) as the official DPS web browser.

To setup Internet Explorer
If you are accessing from a DPS building:
If Internet Explorer (IE) has not been configured you must do the following:
1. Open IE.
2. On the Menu Bar Go to TOOLS.
3. Select Internet Options.
4. Select the CONNECTIONS Tab.
5. Select the LAN SETTINGS button.
Do not check (or uncheck) the Automatic Configuration options.
6. At the PROXY SERVER SETTINGS - Check both boxes and click on Advanced.
Proxy address to use is - dpspxy
Port Address is 8080.
7. Check use the same proxy for all protocols.
8. In the EXCEPTIONS box enter *.detpub.k12.mi.us;*.detroit.k12.mi.us;*.detroitk12.org
9. Click on the OK Button and
10. Exit out of settings

From Home or outside of the DPS Network
You must have an active connection to the Internet. Use the web browser of your choice, Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher. Do not use proxy server settings.

After connecting to the internet and launching your web browser go to: http://www.detroitk12.org then go to Quick Links and choose iMail or iCalendar

Log into your iMail and IMMEDIATELY CHANGE your password:
User ID: firstname.lastname
Password: The first 3 letters of your
last name and the last 4 digits of your File No., e.g. doe3456 )
Click on Log In After logging in:
Click on OPTIONS
Click on Password
Complete Screen
Click on Change Password.
Your password will be automatically changed for both the web mail and web calendar logins.


Key Information:
Your user id is: first name.last name
Your initial password is: First three letters of last name, and
Last four digits of your File Number E.g. John Doe 123456 = doe3456
Your new email address: first name.last name@detroitk12.org
Go directly to the DPS Website: http://www.detroitk12.org
Click on the DPS Quick-Links drop-down and select: iMail or iCalendar.

iMail
You will be prompted to log in.
Change your password on your 1st Login, to accomplish this: Click on Options, then click on Password. Change your password and click on Change password. Click on Inbox to return you to the inbox.

The new Email System has all the basic email functions:
Get Mail (receive), Reply (answer), Compose (new message), Send (mail)

New Email Management Functions include:
• Creating Custom Folders
• Copies of outgoing mail are automatically stored in the Sent folder.
• Address Books – there are both personal and a corporate directory.

iCalendar
You will be prompted to login:

The new Calendar is easy to use and full of features such as:
• Sharing of Calendars
• Task Lists
• Calendar Groups

For more information and assistance – after logging in click on the Help link in the upper right of the window. These help documents are easy to follow and understand.

Other information
If you currently have an email account (i.e. johnjones) with an email address such as john_jones@dpsnet.detpub.k12.mi.us your mail will automatically be forwarded to the new account until Jan 1, 2004. Please begin notifying your colleagues of your new email address as soon as possible.

We know that you will find these new services easy to use. Remember that the use of the email and calendaring systems is to assist you in your administrative, curriculum and academic needs and responsibilities. It is not for personal use.
