Behavior Specialists
Although the Behavior Specialists Unit is under the Office of School Social Work Service, Behavior Specialists are a group composed of School Social Workers, School Psychologists, and Teachers, who consult with administrators, teachers, School Social Workers and other staff in the local schools to help coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans that address students’ inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful. Behavior Specialists also help to provide classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies when requested by school staff/administrators.
Behavior Specialists are also external coaches for Michigan Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MiBLSi)/Positive Behavior Support (PBS) programs in schools.
The Behavior Specialist unit also provides Professional Development to staff in the areas of FAB/BIP, PBS, Crisis Prevention and Intervention Strategies (CPI), etc.
