It’s not too late to join the Warm Up to Read Program, which commenced nearly two weeks ago.
The program, a collaboration between the Detroit Public Schools and the Detroit Public Library system, rewards children for reading during the summer. Activities are held at public library branches throughout the city. Each branch gives away prizes to children for reading during the summer and for participating in the activities.
To participate, go to your local public library, sign up for a library card and register for the Summer Warm Up to Read Program. Children who keep up their reading during the summer are more likely to excel in school and on standardized examinations like the MEAP.
The program’s recommended summer reading list is posted on the District’s website (www.detroitk12.org). For more information, please contact your local library.
