2006 Broad Scholars announced- Recipients will return to teach at DPS after graduating from MSU

Sixteen Detroit Public Schools graduating seniors are on their way to Michigan State University this fall to study education on a full ride courtesy of the Eli Broad Foundation.

In return, upon graduation from Michigan State, the students will return to the Detroit Public Schools to work as teachers for several years. This program, which is entering its third year, is a partnership among the Broad Foundation, the Detroit Public Schools and Michigan State University’s College of Education. It is funded by $6 million in seed money that was put up by the foundation several years ago. The idea behind the project is to encourage more students to become teachers in urban public schools like DPS.
