DPS Principal Wins Ambassadors in Education Award

Dr. Deborah Hunter-Harvill, principal of McMichael Technological Academy, was recently awarded the Metlife Foundation Ambassadors in Education Award. The award is given to educators for their efforts to bridge gaps among schools and parents, businesses and community groups.

Hunter-Harvill, who is the president-elect of the National Association of Black School Educators, was chosen for the award because of her commitment to building sustainable community partnerships. As principal of McMichael, a middle school, Hunter-Harvill has helped establish faith-based partnerships and after school programs for students.

For winning this award, Hunter-Harvill will receive a $5,000 grant that will be used for the benefit of the school.

The award is sponsored by MetLife Foundation, which, among other things, supports programs that increase opportunities for young people to succeed, and develops partnerships between schools and communities.
