January 26, 2006 –The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the Detroit Public Schools the 2005 Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Leadership Award.
The award, which was sent to DPS earlier this month, salutes a school district’s commitment to successfully managing air quality issues.
“EPA commends your commitment to improving the indoor air quality in our nation’s schools and protecting the health and safety of students and staff,” Jennifer Lemon, EPA’s program coordinator for Indoor Air Quality for Schools Awards Program, wrote in a letter to Superintendent William F. Coleman III. “Furthermore, EPA recognizes that the success of the IAQ TfS Program relies heavily on the contributions of dedicated school districts, such as yourself, that understand the benefits of good indoor air quality. I encourage you to continue making great strides in addressing IAQ in your school district.”
