January 24, 2006 – Detroit Public Schools Police on Tuesday morning arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of improperly entering several school buildings and of stealing numerous items at those buildings.
DPS police say the man, whose name they declined to release, was arrested at Henry Ford High School where he was trying to pass himself off as substitute teacher. In the past, the man had variously posed as a substitute music teacher, a school district official and a parent.
It was not the suspect’s first brush with the law. DPS Police had previously arrested him for trespassing. His arrest on Tuesday came after reports that a man fitting his description was attempting to enter other school buildings. DPS police prepared a bulletin warning area schools to look out for the presence of strangers in their schools. An alert secretary at Roberto Clemente School stopped him from entering. Staff at Neinas School also barred him from entering. DPS security officers stopped him at Western High School where he claimed to be a District executive. DPS police say that he had false ID from Henry Ford High School on him when he was picked up.
He was charged him with trespassing and turned him over to Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies for an outstanding assault warrant from Farmington Hills.
