DPS executive director on list of luminaries to be honored by Hispanic Business Alliance

November 28, 2005 – Dr. Norma Barquet, an executive director in the District’s office of academic affairs, is one of six leaders who will be honored by the Hispanic Business Alliance at its 27th annual holiday awards gala on Friday, December 2.

The award salutes leadership, excellence and advocacy for individuals who have made a difference in the Hispanic community. Awards are conferred in the following categories: business, education, government, community development and entertainment. A sixth category is for “Corporate Advocate of the Year.”

As a recipient of this award, Dr. Barquet will be in distinguished company. Among this year’s recipients is Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, who will receive a special recognition for advocacy in the Hispanic community. The event, which will be held at the Roostertail in Detroit, will begin with a reception at 7:30 p.m. It will be followed by dinner and a program at 8 p.m.
