November 23, 2005 – Dr. Denise Davis-Cotton, principal of the highly regarded Detroit School of Arts, recently received two major honors at the conference of the International NETWORK of Performing and Visual Arts, an organization that promotes arts education.
She was presented with the coveted Jeffrey Lawrence Award, which is given to the head of a NETWORK school that demonstrates a commitment to excellence in arts education and training. Also at the conference, Davis-Cotton was elected the NETWORK’s president-elect. She was elected in part for her leadership, commitment and service to arts education.
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which maintains a partnership with the Detroit School of Arts, received the Community Partnership Award for its commitment to serving students at the school at the same conference, which was held in Pittsburgh.
