November 3, 2005 – Diane Fleming, Principal of Schulze Elementary, will travel to Tokyo as a participant in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program on November 18.
Fleming was chosen from a pool of more than 2,500 applicants to participate in this program which allows primary and secondary school teachers to visit Japan for three weeks. The program is an effort to promote greater intercultural understanding between the two nations.
Fleming will be among 200 educators visiting Japan in November. They will have the opportunity to meet Japanese government officials and educators. They will also travel to 20 host cities outside of Tokyo where they will be in direct contact with students, teachers and attend a teachers college.
Applicants are not required to have previous knowledge of Japanese or Japan. Teachers of all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The deadline for all 2006 trips is December 10, 2005. For more information about the program, visit: www.fulbrightmemorialfund.jp or call 1-888-527-2336.
