District Football Championships set for this Friday

October 17, 2005 – Ford Field will host the senior varsity football championship games for the Detroit Public Schools’ two divisions on Friday, October 21.

Kickoff for the Division B game, which will feature Mumford and Finney high schools, is at 4 p.m.

In the Division A game, Murray-Wright will take on Martin Luther King High School at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the gate. Parking at Ford Field is an additional $6. Both games promise to showcase the abilities of some of the nation’s top high school athletes. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used to strengthen the District’s football programs, as well as other athletic programs, nearly all of which have which have suffered from severe budget cuts in recent years.

“By showing up to cheer on these student athletes, you will be helping to boost their confidence and inspiring them to strive for excellence,” said William F. Coleman III, CEO of the Detroit Public Schools. “Do come out on Friday – and bring a friend.”
