Detroit Public Schools - School of Choice Statement

The School District of the City Detroit (the “District”) has by Order of the CEO
determined that it is in the District’s best interest to participate in the School of Choice Program under Section 105 and Section 105c of the State School Aid Act of 1979.

The District will allow the enrollment of an unlimited number of non-resident students residing within Wayne County and those residing in a contiguous intermediate school district in our traditional K-12 programs in a Detroit Public School as a school of choice student in the following grades and locations:

Kindergarten through Grade 8: The District will accept all applications to K-8 DPS traditional programs at schools within the District.

High Schools (Grades 9 through 12): The District will accept all applications to DPS traditional programs at high schools within the District.

No guarantees can be made that a student will be assigned to a specific school within the District; however, every effort will be made to accommodate parent preferences.

Non-Traditional Programs: The District will allow the enrollment of a limited number of non-resident students residing within Wayne County and those residing in a contiguous intermediate school district in our non-traditional high schools subject to space availability. The application period, grades, schools, programs and the number of available spaces will be specifically identified in a notice to the general public at a later date. In the event the number of applicants exceeds the number of available spaces, a random drawing will be held in accordance with State law requirements.

The District may refuse enrollment to any non-resident student who has been suspended for any reason from any school within the preceding 2 years (2003-2004, 2004-2005) or to any student who has ever been expelled from another school.
