DPS Executive Director, Darrell A. Rodgers, Ph.D., Awarded Michigan State University, Executive MBA Scholarship

Detroit, Michigan – The Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University announced its decision to award Darrell A. Rodgers, Ph.D., as its 2005 fully-funded scholarship
recipient for its Broad School’s Executive MBA (EMBA) program. Dr. Rodgers is currently the Executive Director of Detroit Public Schools, Department of Environmental Health and Safety.

Dr. Rodgers will begin class in August 2005 and spend one summer in Europe. He will receive an EMBA in May 2007 and join the ranks of some of the world’s most prominent business leaders.

At the Black Tie Event held at Henry Form Museum on Saturday, June 4, 2005 in Dearborn, Michigan Dr. Rodgers accepted the honor stating “I am very grateful to Detroit Public Schools because it has given me so much. To whom much is given, much is expected and I anticipate the challenge.”

Prior to joining Detroit Public Schools in 2000, Dr. Rodgers was employed by the City of Detroit Health and Wellness Promotion Department as its Director of Health Policy, Planning and Grants Management Division, as well as served as Director of Epidemiology for Kalamazoo County Health Department.

Dr. Rodgers currently holds a baccalaureate degree in chemistry, as well as a doctorate of philosophy degree in environmental toxicology each earned from Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida.

Over 100 applicants expressed an interest in this scholarship opportunity especially established for employees of Detroit Public School employees.
