…Liana Mulholland, a senior at Cass Technical High School, is dyslexic and an exceptional artist.







 Those two aspects of who Liana is won her a $10,000 Ann Ford Scholarship from the National Center of Learning Disabilities. Only one scholarship is awarded annually. Liana has received many awards and much acclaim for her artistic talent and skills and has been accepted as an art major at the University of Michigan where she’ll begin her studies this fall. 











…Many young musicians will bang their drums loudly at the Martin Luther King Jr. High School Marching Band Competition and Exhibition on Saturday, May 28, from 1 to 7:30 p.m. at the school. This is a fundraiser for the MLK Marching Band so come on out and cheer your favorite musicians on to victory because schools from throughout the Metro Detroit area will be there to compete for cash prizes. Tickets are $7 in advance. $10 at the gate. Call 313-494-7426 or 313-433-1079 for more information.















…Former Piston great, Joe Dumars, recently paid a visit to the students at Grayling Elementary School in conjunction with the DPS Department of Health and Physical Education. He spent part of the morning talking to the students about his career, summer activities they can get involved in and the importance of a good education.















...Principal Bettie Reid truly appreciates the good things that happen at Longfellow Middle School which made a recent event that much more special. The LSCO hosted a Recognition Dinner for about 60 students who participated in the Science Fair, Academic Games, played on the basketball team and were cheerleaders. The children were treated to a catered dinner of spaghetti, corn, salad, macaroni and cheese, and desert.
