WRCJ.Under New Management

The District's 42,000 watt radio station, formerly known as WDTR (90.9), changed call letters to WRCJ several months ago and is now under the management of Detroit Public Television, WTVS Ch. 56.

Five other organizations, Michigan Radio (U of M) in Ann Arbor, Education Media Foundation of Rocklin, CA, Family Life Communication of Tucson, AZ, SCI Global Communication of Detroit and The Right Production, Inc. also of Detroit, submitted proposals for management of the station. Details of the WTVS agreement are still being worked out, but they are slated to manage the station throughout September 30, 2009 which is expected to save the District about $1 million each year. The District will still own the radio station which will be housed inside the new Detroit School of the Arts along with the broadcast television teaching facilities which will also be operated by WTVS.
