….Congratulations are in order for Jalen Houston, a fifth grader at the Catherine C. Blackwell Institute.

He was one of three winners of the Fox 2/Rock Financial, essay contest, “What Dr. Martin Luther king, Jr. Means To Me.” For his work, Jalen was a guest on the Fox 2 News Morning Show and was asked to read part of his 200 word essay. He was also given a special gift pack and tickets for him and his classmates to attend a Piston game.



…John Mayes, a senior at Denby High School, is really sitting pretty these days…at the keyboard of his very own baby grand piano which was given to him by the James Tatum Foundation of the Arts. Mayes attended Interlochen on a Foundation scholarship and at their 10th Annual Recognition Awards Ceremony, he was awarded yet another scholarship. It seems that John is well on his way to becoming a Gospel artist or producer.
