…..Taft Middle School hosted an Open House, during the day, and took parents through the school to visit classrooms from the first through the sixth period. Parents were provided with forms for signing up for the PTA, Compact and student lunches.
…..Michael Serling, Esq., a graduate of MSU was given their Distinguished Alumni Award for outstanding volunteer service, and the highest level of professional accomplishments and character. He is a former DPS teacher.
…..Mary Edmunds, a science teacher at the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts, participated in a pilot program for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Renewal Process. She learned about and participated in the renewal process and provided feedback that will be used to guide revisions that will result in the final form.
…..Graphic arts students at Golightly Career and Technical Center toured Michigan’s largest advertising agency, Campbell Ewald and got to see how the skills they are learning are put to use in actual advertising.
…...The Wayne State University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies awarded Andrea Williams of the DPS Department of Safe and Drug Free Schools, the Community Peacemaker Award for her efforts to improve social relations in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
….The Metropolitan Detroit Science Teacher’s Association honored three DPS science educators. Ellen Daniel Jones received the Distinguished Service Award, Brian Chaplin, physics teacher at Northwestern High School and Kimberly Finley, science teacher at Lessenger Middle School both received mini grants.
