Very soon, a check for $5,000 dollars will arrive at the Detroit Lions Academy where Cheryl White is the principal.
The school will receive the funds because Ms. White happens to be one of the best principals in the country. She along with 14 other principals if 14 other cities have been named winners of the 2004 MetLife Foundation Ambassadors in Education Award for extraordinary efforts to strengthen their schools and communities. In real terms, the students, teachers and community members nominated Ms. White because they have seen her good works. Community partnerships have increased, student reading levels and attendance are on the rise and the school has been described as an oasis for the neighborhood, refreshing it with the power of learning.
