MALES means Men Assuming Leadership and Ensuring Success. For young men, older men, any men it also means learning that when you face obstacles in life or set goals, you don't have to travel the path alone.
Through a series of seven male-focused sessions sponsored by the District's Department of Parent and Community Liaisons, information about being a better father, improving credit, becoming a healthier person, mentoring in the public schools, becoming a youth coach, and navigating through the Friend Of The Court will be made readily available to any man who wants it. The first session will take place on Wednesday, November 3rd. It's an introduction to the program and will feature inspiring words from Sondai Lester, program manager for the City of Detroit Fatherhood Initiative and University of Detroit/Mercy Titans Basketball coach, Perry Watson. Come out and get pumped up to triumph over obstacles large and small; to reach goals, large and small; and to help yourself to take advantage of the opportunities that can help make you a better man.
The remaining six sessions will be held the first Wednesday of every month beginning in December and ending with the last session in May. Each will take place from 6 to 8 pm in the Parent Resource Center in the New Center One Building, 3031 W. Grand Blvd. There will be giveaways, child care and dinner. Everything is free and every man is invited to attend. Just call 313-873-9974 to make your reservation. Schedules are available on the Detroit Public Schools website.
