There’s no way around that fact and Laura Speegle, a 3rd-5th grade teacher at Courville Elementary spent part of her summer learning about weather forecasting…preparing herself for teaching her students this school year.
She shadowed meteorologists and other weather forecasting professionals in the Detroit Weather Forecast Offices (WFO). They taught her about National Weather Service forecast applications, and she even assisted in the launching of a device that monitored severe weather systems. She spent some time in Ann Arbor with several scientists involved in weather research projects in the Great Lakes region and then traveled to an airport to learn about the equipment used to provide vital meteorological information for aviation operations and safety. Ms. Speegle’s learning adventure was a part of the Detroit WFO community outreach and educational programs.
