Profesor de La Deuna Manana

That’s what the students at Western International, Roberto Clemente, The Academy of the Americas, Neinas, Maybury and Webster schools may have said on the mornings that the six teachers from Mexico visited their classrooms. The teachers came to Detroit primarily to learn more about our educational system. But their mere presence was a special gift for many of the students in the schools, who are children of migrant workers and participated in the Summer School For Migrant Education Program. The teachers taught the children about Mexican history, the people of Mexico today and their rich traditions and culture. They were important lessons because they helped give the children a sense of pride and valuable knowledge about their heritage. The visit was coordinated through the Detroit Public Schools’ Office of Bilingual Education and Related Programs and the Michigan Department of Migrant Education.
