Walk -On....Glazer Students

A clear day and lots of children outside. Sounds like time for fun, but when the 5th graders from Glazer school got together, they had more than fun on their minds. They thought about walking.

Their gathering was the culmination of a great tradition at the school. Every year the departing 5th graders raise pledges and participate in a Walk-a-Thon. The money they raise is used to purchase something for the school and remaining students as a way of saying thank you to the staff and school for their great academic experiences.

So on Walk-a-Thon day, the students got their water bottles, pedometers, adjusted their shoes and walked. They were cheered on by a dedicated group of parents, staff and community supporters. When the walking was done, the totals revealed that Robin Butler, Brandon Bennett, and William West had walked the furthest…11, 10.8 and 9.19 miles respectively. Tiauna Byas, Dorian Dillard and Brandon Allen raised the most money…$139, $89 and $40 respectively. The funds were enough to pay for the 5th grade memory book and to buy a picture frame for each 5th grader. All of the Glazer preschool students were able to by a $4 book from the Scholastic Book Fair at the school and the remaining funds will be saved to add to the funds raised during the next Glazer Walk-a-Thon.
