Players Visit Detroit Public Schools

Reading is vital and that’s one reason why this summer, Chris Webber of the Sacramento Kings, stopped by Davison Elementary School to read to the students who participate in the PAL (Police Athletic League) Program.

The reading session was certainly one that got the students’ attention. But along with the reading the students had an opportunity to talk to Chris about the importance of reading. This special reading program was sponsored by PAL and Marygrove College for the children of Davison.

For youngsters who like football, the summer held a treat for them as well. Karon Riley, linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons conducted the First Annual Celebrity Youth Football Clinic at the Martin Luther King, Jr., High School.

The clinic was for youngsters from 7 to 13 years old. Riley was a three-year letter winner in football, basketball and track at King. He focused on hard work, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and good personal values. There were prizes handed out at the end of the clinic, but what the youngsters and parents probably like most was seeing some of Riley’s NFL buddies who were there such as Michael Vick, T.J. Duckett, Bryan Scott, Larry Foote, Anthony Adams, Jimmy Farris and David Terrell.
