If you happen to run into Jeanette Stump of the Detroit News, Osvaldo Rivera of Madonna University or Geraldo Vazquez, assistant principal at Earhart Middle School, just ask them about Hector Perez, an art teacher at Earhart.

They think he’s great and so does the Recognizing Achievement Rewarding Excellence Foundation that has declared Mr. Perez one of only five recipients of their RARE award this year. Hel received a $1,000 cash award, and an engraved trophy. Stump, Rivera and Vazquez nominated him for the award because of his ability make a real difference in the lives of his students. Under his direction, students from Earhart have developed their skills and gone on to attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the country.
