Race For The Gold!

There is no greater gathering of athletes and no grander display of athletic prowess than the Olympics. This year’s summer Olympic Games will be especially memorable because they’ll take place in the country where it all began, Greece.

For Donna Williams, a teacher at Nolan Middle School, her family and friends it will be even more special because Donna’s daughter, Lauryn Williams, is a member of the U.S. Track and Field team and will be competing in the 100 meter dash.

The 20 year old runner beat out the favorite, Marion Jones, for a well-earned spot on the team. It would be great if everyone she knows could be there to cheer her on. But only one person might be able to go…her mother Donna, if funds can be raised to help pay her way.

It’s estimated that the trip will cost upwards of $16,000. If you’d like to support the effort to get Donna to the Olympics, come to the fundraiser at “Seldom Blue” in the Renaissance Center, Thursday, July 22 from 5 to 9 pm, or you can make a donation at any Fifth-Third Bank Branch to the Lauryn Williams Olympic Fund.

With enough support, Lauryn will know there is one special voice in the Olympic crowds cheering for her.
