This Detroit Technology High School student will not have a dull summer. She will instead spend six weeks in extremely challenging courses of study, spending seven to eight hours every day in classes and labs, plus about five hours everyday studying and another four hours studying each weekend day either alone or in study groups.
Even though she is an excellent student and is one of the few students selected out of 600 applicants nationwide for a very exclusive, six-week program on a college campus, in order to succeed she will continually have to push herself academically…even beyond her comfort level.
Oh, there will be some moments of fun…tours, trips to local engineering and science organizations, and interesting lectures, but as her acceptance letter into the MITES program states…’The main focus is on academics…we think it is only fair to warn you…this is MIT!’
