Hancock Preparatory Center

Hancock Preparatory Center, K-8

Mrs. Coy Robinson, Principal

Hancock Preparatory Center, K-8 is a comprehensive Middle School, however, the foundation of the program is behavior modification.

Hancock first opened its doors five years ago and receives students from all areas of the District.  Students who enter the school serve a 90-180 day enrollment based on violations ranging from:

  • Assault on employees/students
  • Weapons (firearms, knives, box cutters)
  • Arson
  • Criminal Sexual Misconduct
  • Gang related activities

The program was designed by Principal Mrs. Coy Lynn Robinson-Green to assist students in managing their behaviors, understand the dynamics of conflict resolution develop/improve social skills and work towards becoming productive citizens in any academic arena.

In keeping with the District’s goal of parent involvement, mandatory weekly parent meetings were incorporated to allow parents the opportunity to be actively engaged with the school and their child’s progress.  Mrs. Robinson-Green says these meetings are a great way to impart information to parents about the progress their student is making. Hancock enrolls students daily, weekly, and monthly and once the students complete their time of learning at Hancock, they can return to their original school.

The staff at Hancock is dedicated to the success of all their students and the school continues to meet AYP and has been listed at a Phase 0. The staff has committed to work hard to give students what they need to succeed in their educational and life endeavors. At Hancock Preparatory Center the staff believes in each and every one of their students and knows they will ”Succeed Anyway.” They all believe that no child should ever be left beind making this program a vital part of Detroit Public Schools.
