Must possess and provide evidence of automotive training beyond high school.
The Automotive Service Technology Special Instructor candidate must have a strong background in the Automotive Industry. The candidate must be able to verify a minimum of two years of recent and relevant occupational experience. Experience must be within six (6) years preceding submission of date applied. (CANDIDATE MUST PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF INDUSTRY WORK EXPERIENCE AT TIME OF APPLICATION).
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
Under the direction of the Principal/Designee; the Automotive Service Technology Special Instructor will:
1. Work directly with Special Populations students in the lab and classroom areas to reinforce skills presented by the program manager.
2. Assist in planning individual instruction for the Special Populations students, i.e., occupational and academic.
3. Maintain student anecdotal records.
4. Serve as liaison with parents regarding student progress.
5. Assist in the growth of cooperative relationships with community organizations, individuals, and/or activities.
6. Recruit students for career center enrollment, specifically Automotive Services and Collision.
7. Assist students in mastering employability skills required for the work-place.
8. Integrate career and technical education with reading and math skills required for program success.
9. Conduct and document monthly evaluations on the progress of the Special Populations students.
10. Build good interpersonal relationships and establish positive rapport with students, parents and colleagues.
11. Establish student success as a primary goal and provide opportunities for all students to experience success.
12. Provides for the well-being, health and safety of staff and students.
13. Establish a learning climate that promotes the orderly behavior of all students while maintaining the dignity and positive self-concept of each student.
14. Seek out and participate in professional staff growth experiences.
15. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the administration.
16. Implement customer service strategies.

Please be prompt when arriving at the fingerprinting site. In order to be fingerprinted, you must present your state issued picture ID or passport, the completed LiveScan Fingerprint Request form, the completed Identix Michigan Fingerprint Applicant Information form, as well as the fingerprint fee of $65.25.
All fingerprinting appointments will be scheduled by Detroit Public Schools, Human Resources Department.
