KEY COMPETENCIES: Candidates must demonstrate an intermediate level of decision-making, critical-thinking and creative problem-solving skills. This includes a working knowledge of how to build self-esteem in students; i.e., influence and motivate challenging student populations, set performance expectations and flex your communication style to manage classrooms. Candidates must possess a comfort level in working with elementary, middle and high school populations, as well as students who require specialized services. Candidate must be available to work five (5) days a week at any school in the District.
Must possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree from an approved regionally or nationally accredited teacher preparation institution; AND a) Have an academic major in the subject area taught OR b) have passed the appropriate State Board-approved teacher certification subject area test if the assignment is in a core academic subject.
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
Under the direction of the Principal/Designee the substitute teacher will:
1. Receives assignments approved by the Division of Human Resources; selected to work in any school five (5) days per week.
2. Reports to the building Principal or designee at the appointed time per the local school; verifies name, employee ID#, Job Code and Job Assignment.
3. Reviews with the Principal, Administrator or designee, all plans, schedules and complies with the Student Code of Conduct guidelines during the instructional day.
4. Maintains, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures for the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned.
5. Teaches the lesson outlined and described and prepared by the absent teacher, Principal or designee.
6. Consults with the building Principal, Administrator or designee before initiating any teaching or other procedures.
7. Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, maintains classroom management and control in class, as well as during lunch and recess periods.
8. Reports, in writing on the form(s) provided by the school secretary, on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
9. Follows all District policies, work rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
