In accordance with the Agreement between the Organization of School Administrators and Supervisors (O.S.A.S.) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced:

Qualifications

Education:

Must possess and provide evidence of minimum of a master’s degree from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent accrediting organization and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate covering grades 9-12 inclusive with vocational endorsement in the area applying.

Candidates must show evidence of completion of graduate credit in three (3) of the following area: Secondary School Administration and Organization; Supervision; School Law and Finance; School Community Relations; Curriculum Development/Planning, Staff development; Educational Psychology.

Experience:

Five (5) years successful teaching experience in Career/Technical Education trades program OR a combination of five (5) years certified teaching in Career/Technical and Trade and Industry work experience. The candidate must possess specialized knowledge and background in a minimum of two (2) Trade and Industry areas and management of equipment, i.e., Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Service, Machine Tools Technology, and Welding & Cutting Technology.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Principal/Designee the Curriculum Leader - Trade & Industry will:

Essential Functions:

1. Provide leadership for development, implementation and coordination of the District’s curriculum through an on-going process of planning for innovation, change and continuous academic improvement.

2. Organize instructional programs to assure execution of the District’s goals and implementation of the School Improvement Plan.

3. Supervise the instructional programs in the department; provide assistance as needed to the individual staff members to improve instructional skills; provide information and leadership in the development of department goals, instructional techniques, and innovative practices; order/receive tolls, equipment and supplies.

4. Effectively communicate and involve parents and community in the on-going educational program of the department.

5. Monitor and evaluate classroom instructions.

6. Monitor student recruitment, attendance and retention.

7. Monitor student certification process and maintain appropriate records for articulation with colleges/universities.

8. Monitor the integration of academics into the career/technical education curriculum programs.

9. Facilitate externship and mentoring experiences for staff.

10. Supervise student-operated, customer service businesses.

11. Collaborate with state and national educational student organizations.

12. Develop and monitor partnerships and advisory boards.

13. Maintain and expand cooperative relationships with community organizations, individuals, and/or activities related to the field.

14. Devise strategies for implementing Employability and Customer Service skills.

15. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned.

Security Clearance:
