ESTABLISH ELIGIBILITY POOL
In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced:

Reports to: Principal/Attendance Supervisor
Location: LOCAL SCHOOLS/ATTENDANCE CENTERS
Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Copy of college transcript(s) must accompany letter of interest. Preparation should include systematic study in several of the following areas: * Social Casework * Child Growth and Development * Child or Family Guidance or Counseling * Education * Applied Psychology * Community Relations and Services * Mental Hygiene Bilingual Proficiency: Academic preparation in some of the above areas may be waived for persons who are proficient in Arabic, Spanish, Hmong or Romanian.
Candidates must have two or more years full-time verified work experience in at least one of the following areas: * Social Work * Counseling * Working with school-age youth * Sociology
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
Under the direction of the Principal/Attendance Supervisor, the Attendance Agent will:
• Investigate absence reports.
• Provide material relief for children in the form of shoes, clothing, eyeglasses, repair of hearing aids, investigation for Goodfellow packages, etc.
• Investigate to determine correct address, birth date, parent’s names, school attended, etc.
• Initiate and following up on legal action in connection with the above functions whenever necessary.
• Counsel and assisting out-of-school youth or dropouts in returning to school.
• Issue work permits to minors fourteen to eighteen years of age.
• Provide for the effective utilization of the available services of community agencies in promoting the physical and mental health of children.
• Serve as liaison person between school and home, always improving relations.
• Effectively presenting oneself to parents and students so that they come to understand that attendance in school is required by law.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal (School) or Attendance Supervisor (Constellation Attendance Center).
