Special Note:

Successful candidates with sufficient preparation beyond the Master’s Degree may be eligible for the advanced salary differential.


Qualifications

Education:

Must possess and provide evidence of a Master’s Degree with twenty hours of course work in the specified content area.

Experience:

Five (5) years successful certified teaching experience in English Language Arts; Mathematics; Science or Social Studies.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.

Certification:

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a BR/Reading, BA/English, BX/Language Arts, EX/Mathematics, RX/Social Studies or DX/Science endorsement.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of Curriculum and Instruction/Principal, the Instructional Specialists will:

Essential Functions:

1. Supports the development and implementation of the District’s curriculum through an on-going process of planning for innovation, change and continuous academic improvement.

2. Assist teachers in implementing a developmental content area, developing and identifying materials for students; and relating instruction to Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE), High School Content Expectations and Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) objectives.

3. Provide teachers with research based instructional strategies and model their use in the specified content area.

4. Assist teachers in the implementation of direct instruction; indirect instruction (self-selection/self-monitoring activities); and diagnostic/prescriptive teaching, including an in-class tutorial plan for students.

5. Work with teachers to jointly collect and examine student achievement data (MEAP, MIP, MME/ACT) and use to determine the areas of focus and intervention.

6. Assist teachers with classroom management strategies in planning for instruction, development of lesson plans, grouping to meet individual needs and organizing the classroom.

7. Provide follow-up support and ongoing professionally embedded assistance to staff.

8. Assist content area teachers with the use of reading and writing instruction in the content areas (reading to learn and writing as a learning tool).

9. Provide in-service activities in the specific content area curriculum for teachers, support staff, parents, and administrators.
10. Participate in and support local school planning teams.

11. Share information with school teams on the progress of students.

12. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned.

Security Clearance:
