Location: Office of Food Services
This position is directly responsible for administration of all DPS Food Services. In addition, this individual is responsible for overseeing the operations including but not limited to, planning, training, inventory, equipment and departmental forecasting.
Candidates for this position must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Culinary Arts, Food Sciences, Nutrition or Education. Additional training in the following areas is also required: Nutrition, Food Service Management, Administration, Evaluation and Staff Development.
Candidates must have five (5) years of administrative experience in a school or other institutional Food Service Program or three (3) years experience as an Assistant Principal or above PLUS two (2) years administrative experience in a school or other institutional Food Service Program. Three (3) years experience managing and overseeing third party vendor contracts preferred. Experience developing short and long range departmental forecasts and excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must be knowledgeable of applicable health codes. Must be familiar with Federal lunch program guidelines.
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, the Director, Office of Food Services will:
1. Responsible for assuring fiscal integrity and responsibility for all DPS food service management and operations;
2. Develop, monitor and supervise budget for all foods services operations;
3. Develop policies and procedures to foster continuous improvement of service delivery;
4. Work closely with the Office of Funds Development to develop new and improved before and after school food programs for students;
5. Oversee the administration and compliance of third party vendor contracts for all DPS food service Operations;
6. Assure school lunches always meet or exceed Federal school lunch requirements;
7. Be directly responsible for the daily operation of food service programs in approximately 250 schools and in other areas, such as training, menu planning, inventory control, equipment, etc.;
8. Responsible for assuring that all facilities meet or exceed the health and safety requirements as dictated by the Health Department;
9. Plan, organize, direct and coordinate activities of the food service administrative staff;
10. Develop long range plans for the food service department including but not limited to scheduled equipment replacement;
11. Keep the General Superintendent informed of any important decisions and the progress made in assigned areas of responsibility;
12. Work closely with all other District departments to assure efficient operations;
13. Attend Board of Education meetings;
14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or designee.
