Board Member, Otis Mathis, District 2, was raised in Southwest Detroit where he still resides with his wife Dawn (Pat). Member Mathis, his wife and his 6 children, are all graduates of Detroit Public Schools. He is a Vietnam - Era Veteran, has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University and has served as Wayne County Commissioner as well as a substitute teacher for Detroit Public Schools. Member Mathis was also Executive Director of the Detroit Veterans Center, director of a non-profit corporation, and member of both the Detroit Federation of Teachers and AFL-CIO Local 231.
