Appointed to the Board of Education in 1999, Member Cofield was elected in 2006 as District 7 representative. Former educator at Kettering High School, Member Cofield is most noted for developing the Alkebu-lan (Swahili for Africa) Martial Arts Federation in 1978 then going on to establish the Alkebu-lan Village located at 7701 Harper which is devoted to community involvement and character building in both youth and adults. More recently Member Cofield was honored by the Black Family Development Centers for his instrumental role in the community.
