Great Parent, Great Start

Mission

The Detroit Public Schools Office of Primary Education recognizes that the potential for learning is enormous for our youngest learners. Our mission is to provide for continuity of instruction among prekindergarten, kindergarten and first grades, offer appropriate high-quality instruction, foster self-esteem and socialization, strengthen home-school interaction and provide a safe and nurturing environment with the intent of improving student achievement and enhancing parental/community involvement.

Goals

1. To collaborate with the content area departments to develop and implement a uniform early childhood curriculum (prekindergarten through third grade) using current research data, best practices and the knowledge of early childhood programming.
2. To provide technical support and professional development for early childhood teachers, administrators and parents to improve student achievement in the early grades.
